Funded by the Canadian International Development Agency, CIDA

Under the patronage of the Mayor of Sidon, Dr. Abdel Rahman El Bizri, and within the “Strengthening Information and Access to Employment for Palestine Refugees in Lebanon” project, an Employment Services Centre was opened on Wednesday 31 March 2010 in Saida. The employment centre will provide job placement services and vocational training opportunities for Palestinian job seekers. The project is funded by the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) and managed by the International Labour Organization (ILO). The project is implemented in coordination with the Joint Christian Committee (JCC), the UNRWA and the Committee for Employment of Palestinian Refugees in Lebanon (CEP).

The overall objective is to collect, analyse and distribute information on the Local Labour Market and to identify employment and training opportunities for job seekers. The Employment Services Center offers services to job seekers and employers. The job seeker, whether skilled or unskilled, benefit from career guidance, counseling and job placement services in addition to guidance on training courses and guidance on entrepreneurial programmes. The employers benefit by receiving pre-screened job seekers which match their vacancies.

Vocational training providers will also benefit as their graduates will be served by the employment services in searching for jobs after the training. The vocational training providers can also seek advice which skills are in demand in the local labour market and re-direct their training courses accordingly.

This Employment Service Center benefits from the experiences of a sister project that has operated successfully in the North of Lebanon since 2008 under the umbrella of UNRWA services and technical services through the ILO.
