The Legal Research Project
http://www.activities.biz/milkis/168 Funded by Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, SDC
In October 2008, the (F)CEP commissioned a Lebanese Legal Office to conduct a study of the current laws governing employment of Palestinian refugees as well as laws related to employment in general, such as business laws. Among other things, the study provides an overview of Lebanon’s compliance with international, regional and Arab legal instruments related to foreign and refugee labour.
A very useful Question and Answer (Q&A) series was also prepared. It is posted in Arabic and English on the CEP website, and was printed for wide distribution.
The CEP held a Legal Seminar on the subject of “Palestinian Refugee Employment between Lebanese Laws and International Conventions”, on the occasion of the completion of the Legal Study titled “The Legal Texts Governing the Employment of Palestinian Refugees in Lebanon” – commissioned to attorneys Fadi El Kobrossi & Roger El Chidiac and funded by the SDC. The seminar was held on November 24, 2009 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel; legal experts and Government representatives participated in debates on the legal restrictions imposed on Palestinian refugee employment in Lebanon.
